today's monday and i have the day off. sleeping in was on my agenda. apparently that's incomprehensible for a certain someone in phoenix. his name is ocie, pronounced 'o-cee'. but wait i'm getting ahead of myself here. let me give you some background info...
i got home late last night from a LONG three day trip. one of my overnights was philadelphia and since matt had never been out there i invited him to fly along. even though we arrived late on saturday night, we still wanted to go out for a frosty beverage. the whole crew came along and we visited one of the oldest irish pubs in the city. and naturally you can't go to bed without a slice of "authentic" italian pizza so we stopped and ate too.
after a quick seven hours of sleep we were up and ready to tour the city. we walked everywhere and saw so much amazing history. if you ever get the chance to go to philly, i would definitely recommend good walking shoes. anyway, we experienced the "Best Philly" coffee and cheesesteaks (not at the same time), saw the Liberty Bell, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Independence and Washington Parks, and walked along the river. everywhere you step there is on some big part of history, and every other house was some famous site. let's just say it was cool.
our time was up way too quickly but we had a plane to catch. lucky for me i was working so i knew i had a ride home. ;) matt, on the other hand, had mapped out many alternate routes, as the non-stops to phoenix weren't looking very promising. he had left for the airport earlier than me and by the time i arrived i knew matt was in trouble. the security line was a mile long and the airport was PACKED!! matt had his name on two standby lists and the flight i was working was so overbooked that they weren't even taking standby names. not good. i told him to make them put his name on the list and then proceeded to my gate to get the plane ready for boarding. i ran up and down the jetway at least five times just to check if he was going to make a flight. even my captain was going to get involved if they didn't let him on...said something about just putting him in the lav! by the end of it all he was able to get on my flight and three legs (equalling over seven hours) later we were finally in phoenix. what a day!! so as you can see, i deserved a morning to sleep in. however...
ding dong. knock knock knock. ding dong. knock knock knock. 7:28 a.m.
matt opens door, "go away ocie. we sleep when it's early! don't come back ever again!"
my hero.
ocie is a guy that drives his taxi cab around town and offers to trim palm trees. he did it once before and charged us $80 when matt understood $40. our neighbor does it for $60. well our palms must be looking pretty shady because ocie stopped by earlier this month and did the same thing, except we didn't answer the door. we just laid in bed and groaned every time he rang the doorbell. and then a hispanic man and his kid came by that same week and offered to trim our palms too. i have a feeling we better get it done before he comes back next week. i'm sure he's thinking three times a charm...
