our story begins in phoenix where we were cleared to fly standby on a northwest flight at 6:45 am. we couldn't believe our luck. first class seats! then the airplane had a faulty front landing gear something or other and we had to deplane and wait approx. three hours until they could fix it. i was concerned that the flight would be canceled and that would be the end of our luck. however they borrowed a part from us scareways and we were on our way. once we arrived in minneapolis we had a short (ha!) four hour drive to the resort. by the time we stopped and got some groceries it was 9 pm. oi! what a first day!
the cabins were slightly crusty but we made it work. our cabin was shared with tony and aj. there was one fan in the whole place and it was in the kitchen. like that helped!! the weather was muggy and hot for the first few days which made sleeping barely possible. however, we played and fished pretty much non-stop so a cool shower right before bed helped us immensely.

as i was walking down the pier i saw a lazy northern swimming in the shallow water. i happened to mention it to the guys fishing off the end of the dock and they all came running over to catch the poor thing. it was funny to see five lures chasing a lone fish. in the end, nick snagged it.

here's matt with his first catch. threw in his line while the other guys were chasing the pike and caught himself a little big-mouth bass.

once we got in the boat we found a BIGGER selection of fish to catch. matt with his first northern of the trip and me with a blue gill and crappie.

we had two boats with motors and a pontoon to our disposal. we definitely took advantage of them!

matt and i went out fishing on our own later sunday evening. matt's first cast caught him a northern pike the length of my entire arm. i caught two nice sized bass on texas rigs. my only bass for the trip. :(
mike caught a plump big mouth bass.
the blow up slide/pool that the little ones got to cool off in.

matt took a nap while we went swimming at the bemidji state park. the signs said that "swimmer's itch" was present in the water. of the five of us that actually went in the water, no one got it. suckers!! also, little calvin filling up his watering can.

just a few photos of dinner time. these happen to be of grilled pizza night. we put a few picnic tables together and ate outside every night. it was a huge free for all!
grams and gramps milana drove the motor home up to spend a few nights with us too.

here are matt's prized fish. well, this ugly one is a bull head with it's intestines hanging out the belly. the second one is a seven pound, thirty two inch northern. thought that was HUGE until we heard that the state record was a fourty five pounder.
me and andrew.
me and my one pound three ounce walleye. first one ever, i think i caught it by accident.

letting the kiddos cool off with a bucket of water. here's lydia and andrew getting soaked.

michael and emily toasting/burning marshmallows...and because it is such a RARE occurance, i caught a smile on michael's face and thought i'd share it.

we were successful in flying back to phoenix on a 2:30 pm flight on saturday. no broken landing gear delays this time. it was a great trip and we look forward to the next awesome fishing adventure. but for now we are glad to be home...
