is it not easy being green?...

being GREEN is an individual choice and i choose to be as GREEN as i can. i have several canvas bags for groceries in my car, and i even carry a large compacted bag in my purse for those impromptu purchases. i take pride in saving the planet one plastic bag at a time, however, not everyone feels the same.

FOR EXAMPLE: my recent stop at the grocery store resulted in five bags. three of them were my own and two were plastic.

now i understand the need for using a plastic bag here or there for any extra groceries, but two bags? in this case, each plastic bag was used for only four items. tell me, why wouldn't all eight fit into one bag? i even told the bagger that i wanted to use the least amount of plastic and was willing to overstuff my own bags.

when i got home i discovered that i had two brown paper bags within one of the plastic bags. really dude? you had to individually wrap my preserves? were they a secret? are they filled with booze? so not only did i get one extra plastic but two paper. i honestly wonder what i would have walked away with if i hadn't brought three of my own...

I was never a greenie until I moved to Phoenix, and now I'm semi-green. Recycle. Reuse. Carry bags in the car with me. It's hard, tho - even in a place where being green is so important, not many of the "big people" (dept stores, groceries, etc) care like the little people do. At least thats what I see. Good job on saving the world one plastic bag at a time!!!

I completely agree with you! Michael and I choose to do the self checkout lane for unlimited items. That way when we have to use plastic (because we do end up with a couple and they are needed as trashcan liners for the bathroom)we try to fit as many items into a plastic bag as possible. Yea for being green! (I was looking online for cute eco-friendly bags and Forever 21 has really cute bags for a couple of bucks each.)
