the whoas of remodeling...

it took matt and i three years to remodel our master bathroom. lack of funds, motivation, funds, know-how, and did i mention funds? were the contributing factors to our turtles pace. but now, we have the know-how, the motivation, and the funds to transform our main bathroom very quickly and easily. wait a minute...remodeling is never quick or easy.

• demo bathroom CHECK
• pick out and buy new cabinets CHECK
• pick out and buy tile for floor and surround CHECK
• repair plumbing issues CHECK
• paint CHECK
• install new cabinets CHECK
• install and grout tile... (insert first WHOA!)
  

tiling day was an exciting day. no more dirty/ugly cement floor to walk on or unfinished walls to look at. a very very very exciting day. the area becomes instantly improved and that much closer to being done. however, imagine my surprise when i came home from work and found this:

i calmly (ha!) called matt while i trying to breathe but could feel the panic attack begin: what is THAT?!!

he says: oh, that tile gives the bathroom character. i saw it before they grouted but figured since you didn't say anything that it would blend in fine. calm down it's okay.

o. m. g. you better call them to fix it. N.O.W.

i think it's fine but alright i will call.

5 minutes later...

yeah they saw it too.

they SAW it and continued anyway???!!!

calm down, they will fix it.

uh yeah. they better. breathing returns to normal...sort of.

the next day the tile was removed and replaced with one that matched the rest of the surround. thank you tilers for your efficiency! and so the remodeling continued...

getting rid of the old seventies yellow was supposed to be a piece of cake. all we wanted, all we asked for, was a white tub. simple right? on day two of the refinishing process we got the news that apparently we have dust that likes to fall in the bottom (and sides and top and ALL OVER really) of the tub; this causes black dots to appear all over the finish. i am really not sure how we are the only ones that experience this problem. after discussing our options on how to fix the finish we decided on having him spray it again. (this was honestly a difficult decision to come by because of the horrible, headache inducing smell that we had to breathe in.) luckily the second time worked like a charm and we were reassured that now that there are two coatings on the tub, we will never ever see yellow again. hallelujah!
