lessons in safety...

this morning jackson and i visited a fire station with some other moms and kids. we got a tour of the fire house, a lesson in STOP DROP and ROLL, climbed in a fire truck, received a very stylish plastic fireman's helmet, and chatted with some local firemen. it was a very cool experience, one that i'm sure i'll have to repeat because jackson couldn't have cared less.

then this afternoon i got a call from matt asking me where i was and if i had my jewelry on. thinking he was concerned that a handsome fireman was hitting on me, i laughed and reassured him that i was wearing my rings and that i'd be home soon. sadly that was the least of his worries. in a rush to get out of the house and to the fire station on time, i forgot to shut and lock all of the windows. one window was left slightly ajar with the security lock engaged so that you couldn't slide it open any further. around noon someone decided that it would be a perfect entrance to the house and just pushed the window right off the track and onto our bed. before setting off the alarm (thank the Lord i didn't forget to set that!), they only rummaged through matt's sock drawer and bedside table. as far as we can tell they didn't take any physical objects, but my sense of security is gone and my trust in people is completely shattered. boo on them!

however, i'm going to try and look on the bright side of things...jackson met with some very nice service men today.
