what is that smell??...

matt and i got to the dental office early monday morning, and walked right into a wall of stench. me, having the superior sense of smell, immediately stopped and was like, "what the hell is that smell?" we looked around for a water leak, or something that would cause such an outrageous odor. found nothing.

nancy, the office girl for the dr. next door (we share a lobby area), came in shortly thereafter. she too stopped immediately and questioned the smell. we told her we couldn't find the source and that's when she said that she's hunted enough to know a dead animal smell. great. i then climbed on top of my chair for fear of the dead thing lurking under my desk.

two days later the smell is now painfully awful. maintenance is determined to find the dead thing and is debating on cutting out holes in the roof to get into the very small crawl space. in this span of two days we've had several patients come in and had to apologize for the unusual odor. they didn't really seem to care.

then, "eureeka!!" (no pun intended) laying in the fake plants by the front door, and in plain view i might add, is the rat. stiff as a board and the source of the smell. gross. but i guess it could have been worse...ie: in our pool.

when I was a kid we had a mouse die in the tube that led the dryer vent outside. our clothes coming out of the dryer smelled awful until my dad unhooked the dryer from the went tube and saw it.

you haven't lived until you've had essence of dead mouse embedded into your clothes.
