drowning in the desert...

i finished planting the front flower bed a few weeks ago. being that my experience with growing things in the desert was limited, i closely monitored their sun exposure and water intake. everything was looking healthy and happy...until today. until it rained. until the downpour. until...until...until all the rain that gathered on the roof was redirected down the metal eave and into the front flower bed (FYI: we don't have gutters). naturally the water was not distributed nicely. it will be a miracle if the unfortunate ones survive their recent drowning.

i wondered how my new plants were fairing in the rain...apparently not so good.

matt saves the day with an umbrella, the first time it's ever been used here in AZ.

the top left plant had completely disappeared under water and the one on the right was severely broken due to the force of the water off the roof.

perhaps i should have thought harder about plant placement
and possible torrential downpour effects before i planted?!

WHo thinks about rain when you live in Arizona? Don't worry - mine did this too last year, and most of the plants came back. They were veggie plants, but I think it might be the same with flowers. After all, if they can take the blistering heat, they should be able to withstand a little torrential downpour, right?? BTW - your flowers need a beer to go with that umbrella. . . .
