pink or blue? no thank you...

it won't be the last time i'm asked, but for the one hundredth time it's a no as to whether or not we are finding out the baby's gender. shocking, i know!! didn't you know that it is actually possible to plan for baby without knowing if it will be a girl or boy? well it is and so far we are doing just fine.

my latest nursery addition was designing and sewing a bed skirt for the crib. since everything in the stores is either very girlie pink, future baseball/trucker boy blue, or u.g.l.y., i opted to make my own stuff. the past holiday weekend provided me with some fantastic sales on fabric so i jumped at the chance to start my baby's bedding.

i entered one of my favorite fabric stores full of ideas and giddy with all the possibilities. i hurried to the section dedicated to baby and was instantly disappointed. among all the obvious girlie pink and boyish blue bolts of fabric there only stood about fifteen neutral baby ones. of the fifteen there was lime green, extreme bright yellow, and winnie the pooh. uh...these were not what i had in mind. my shoulders slumped at the choices made available to me, but i did not give up. ...thus began my search.

i walked from aisle to aisle taking everything in and once through i started over at the beginning until i found what i was looking for. although it took me longer than anticipated, i do thank the store for color coordinating their bolts. i ended up finding a cute, quiet, and understated animal print in a soft creamy yellow. it also had touches of green, which coordinated with the wall color (hallelujah i don't have to repaint!!), as well as orange and brown.

only took me about four hours, complete with front pleat.

next up: creating some crocheted animals and making sock bunnies. if interested in contributing to baby's collection, the colors of yellow, green, brown, and orange would be most appreciated.

You're so talented! Can I recruit you to teach me how to make curtains so my kiddo can FINALLY have something cool in there? I can't believe you made your own bedskirt!! Soooo cool!
