how long does white wine keep? left unopened. refrigerated. kept on its side. i would guess years. and why not? this one has been untouched for eight years now and just waiting for the perfect celebration. how bad could it really be?
this particular bottle of wine was purchased during a visit to europe, germany to be precise, in the year two thousand. it was a trip to be remembered for all time. a trip taken with my mom and four of my sisters. a trip that i think all of us vowed never to do again. once was enough...besides, i don't think we'd survive it.
during our three week european tour we stopped at several wineries, sampling the delectable wines from the season along the way. at one of the wineries we decided to splurge on a case of wine and have it shipped back home. one bottle for each of us, to drink whenever and for whatever occasion we saw fit.
my occasion was going to be my engagement. and then perhaps my wedding day. maybe the news of a baby on the way? as you can see from the photo above and then below, the bottle remained corked until today. no, no baby. today is not a special occasion. today just happens to be the day that i looked in my fridge, decided to clean it, and saw a bottle of wine that i've been saving for way too long.
i opened it up and let it breathe, actually took a little sip, and started reminiscing. i shared some really wonderful times with my mom and sisters on that trip, so here's my toast to you all. here's to opening up a bottle of very good memories.

mine was moldy and I had to throw it out. probably too many years living under my bed. ha! Salud!
